Provide Financial Assistance to Students & Teachers of Punjabi Music, Dance, etc.: Gujri Foundation will provide financial assistance and support to individuals who teach, perform and promote Punjabi music and arts such as Bhangra, across the country. The organization will also provide assistance to students and teachers of the Punjabi language and traditional sports such as Kabbadi.
Punjabi artists in the United States serve the community through their performances and by training aspiring musicians. The Punjabi culture has a rich tradition of music and dance, and these artists and trainers form a vital link between the community and its cultural roots.
The program will benefit talented Punjabi artists by providing them financial assistance to continue developing their skills. The program will benefit gifted teachers by providing them financial assistance to continue sharing their rich knowledge and experience with their students.
Gujri Foundation identifies and supports individuals of exceptional talent, who have the ability to propagate the art forms in the community, especially among the youth. This activity is totally funded by the charitable donations received by the organization.
Typically financial assistance is provided to subsidize the fees payable in acquiring training, new musical instruments, etc. Individuals desirous of receiving such assistance are required to submit a written request for funding.
All applications of students need to be submitted along with letters of recommendations from their teachers and other accomplished professionals in the filed. All teachers should submit recommendation letters from their peers and other accomplished professionals in the filed. The applicants could also submit copies of certificates, awards won along with photographs of performances and samples of recordings.
All applications are thoroughly scrutinized by the Gujri Foundation to check whether they qualify for assistance, and therefore can be forwarded to the final deciding authority.
Most of directors and officers of the organization have a strong background in Punjabi music and dance. Decisions regarding financial assistance provided by the organization are taken by the governing board or empowered committees appointed by the board, during meetings scheduled as per the organization’s bylaws. The organization will maintain minutes of all such meetings. The organization will maintain minutes of all such meetings. Further, the organization will maintain comprehensive records of all disbursements. Such records will include bank statements, receipts, complete details of the beneficiary individuals, etc.
In cases where the grants are to be used for acquiring musical instruments, the organization will pay the instrument vendors directly. Such payments will only be released against valid invoices and necessary documentation. When the grants are to be used by students for receiving training, the payments will directly be released to the organization providing such training.
All beneficiaries of the program are required to keep in touch with the organization on a regular basis. The program will suspend its assistance if the organization receives evidence that the beneficiary has deliberately provided wrong information or misused the funds. The maximum assistance an individual can obtain in any given calendar year will be $ 2,500 for students and $ 3,500 for teachers.
This activity will be fully funded by the charitable donations received by the organization. The directors and officers of the organization involved in this activity do not receive compensation in any form, for the services rendered.
